Living With Parkinson's
As much as I hate to admit it, this was my first venture on the internet. I was lost, but I told no one! LOL Somehow, I stumbled into a Parkinson's Chatroom on MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital). I met so many people...people with Parkinson's (PD) who were trying to work while they tried to understand what was happening to their body. People who, for the most part were very much superior to me in the knowledge of PD...BUT who were very free to share what they knew and what they were experiencing. This is where I met Nancy (Nan) Abraham. During the next year, we became fast friends...became best friends. In 1999, she came to Tennessee from Rochester, NY to meet me. Sitting on the front porch of a little cabin in the Smoky Mountains, the idea of a website was born. April 1, 2000, PLWP - People Living With Parkinson's, was born. We worked almost five months developing the website. Neither of us knew the first thing about putting it together...but we learned fast. To make a long story short, the little website that launched that first night with 20 people (our Charter Members) on April Fool's Day is now a non-profit, 501c3, internet based national organization with over 500 members. An organization maintained and managed by people living with Parkinson's. I won't take any more space here to describe PLWP, for more information PLEASE visit our website at www.plwp.org The past three years have been a whirlwind! In December of 1999, I was working 60 to 80 hours a week. I managed a PC Service Department, responsible for 1500 computers nationwide. Think about that date...Y2K...get it? I was working my buns off. In May, 2000, I couldn't keep up with my life any more, so Mr. PD made me take disability. Yep, I'm now a wobbly, domestic engineer who spends (thank God) most of her days managing PLWP. To say it was a God send is an understatement. So you see, my personal website would not be complete without a tribute to the members of PLWP.
To each and every one of you who are visiting my website and see this page, please please please visit our website at www.plwp.org . We're working hard trying to make a difference for our fellow PLWPs as well as ourselves. You might just find a home there...you don't have to have PD to join us.
